Hala Kondratowa (1333m)tourist shelter in Polish part of the Tatra Mountains, hosted by the PTTK .
This small wooden hut is placed on the side of a big clearing called Polana Kondratowa, surrounded by the southern slopes of Giewont, then Kopa Kondracka (part of Czerwone Wierchy) and Suchy Wierch Kondracki. see the Hala Kondratowa - map of the surroundings It takes about 1 h to get there by foot from the bus stop: Kuznice - just by the bottom station of Kasprowy Wierch cable car. On the way you pass the Brother Albert's Chapel and Monastery. During the winter, the area around is a fine place for telemark skiing. Also the chair lift Goryczkowa (one of two chairlifts of the highest Polish skiing resort) is available within just few minutes skiing. Area above Kondratowa is a good and easy place for free-ride skiing with beautiful sights.
The history of the winter sports starts here around 1910 year. Hala Kondratowa was a location for one of the first ski-jumping facilities in Poland. The legend says that during the war, a German plane has crushed against the slopes of Giewont. It says the wrack is still there as well as some other marks of the history. In 1953 a huge avalanche came down from Giewont and stopped just in front the shelter. A giant 18 tonnes rock crashed against the corner of the hut and stayed there for good. The beautiful landscape is filled with pure nature. It's a wild animals' country, rulled by it's king - the Brown Bear which has been seen around recently. Hala Kondratowa - PTTK mountain hut is a smallest Tatra mountain shelter. It provides accommodation for 20 people (2 rooms by 6 and 1 by 8) with a common bathroom for a price of just 7 €.
